Full Circle - 12 - Full Body Clocks
Full Circle - 12 - Full Circle Circle
Follow the circles to whole body connection
Based on Moshe Feldenkrais’ ATM Book – 6. Differentiation of Pelvic Movements by Means of an Imaginary Clock and other pelvic clock lessons from the Amherst Training, and variations by Alan Questel and others
One more look at the Feldenkrais lesson that everyone knows: the pelvic clock. In my Feldenkrais training program, we did no less that seven versions of that lesson: nose clocks, head and pelvic clocks, sacral clocks, shoulder and hip clocks, front and back clocks. This final series lesson - yes it has gone on for a long time… - will wrap up with full body circles.
This series has covered some of the ATM classics and some of my favorites. I began thinking about the diaphragm as a circle connecting the ribs and abdomen. Still thinking about the diaphragm, the baby ball lessons brought in the deep relaxation of curling up, lengthening the spine, letting the head drop and eyes relax. From there, we connected the feet back to the center with the foot painting sessions, floated through the classic flexors and extensors, and brought in the pelvic floor throughout. Now we wrap up with clocks, the full circles found throughout the body.
How much have you integrated since we last worked through these basic lessons? This last series class asks you to bring your awareness of breath, diaphragm, pelvic floor system, feet, head arms and chest into one whole self.
Science Nerd Candy Bowl: we’re done for now
Set Up for Supine and Side Lying Lesson:
Lying on a mat with support for head and knees as appropriate. Additional support for head if we get to side-lying.
How you might feel after this lesson: Longer; Open; Breathing deeply; Better visual focus; Connected from the pelvis out; Clearer coordination of pelvis and extremities, including the head; Deeper turns, Softer eyes, Relaxed neck.
“We have to continue to learn. We have to be open. And we have to be ready to release our knowledge in order to come to a higher understanding of reality.”
