Hippie Chicks - 10 - Mary - Where Have All The Flowers Gone - Coming Full Circle

Find Lift, Find Freedom

Based on “AY 60” by Moshe Feldenkrais

[Mary] Travers often said that (Bob Dylan’s) Blowin' in the Wind was her favorite song and that her most important performance was in Washington at the climax of Martin Luther King's march on Washington. "Imagine singing that song in front of a quarter of a million people, black and white, who believed they could make America more generous and compassionate in a non-violent way." (The Guardian)

Mary Travers, activist, singer, early hippie chick role model, made Where Have All The Flowers Gone, by Pete Seeger, a peace movement anthem. The song goes full cycle from missing flowers to missing flowers. And full cycle we go, returning to a lesson that often concludes a themed series.

This is the lesson where we survey all the major joints, hips and spinal actions, looking for improvements, new kinks that show up as our systems change, and new areas of curiosity. Highlight the connections we have been developing, and, consciously, lift up and out of our slumps, changing the world from the inside out.

Set Up:

  • On a mat on the floor, with possible extra padding for belly and chest when prone

  • OR - on a firm bottom, armless chair with a small footstool to help keep back released

How You Might Feel After This Lesson: Connected through the entire torso; Ribs open and flexible; Breath deep and wide; Arms resting easily in shoulder sockets; Shoulder girdle - shoulder blades, clavicles - resting comfortably over upper ribs; Tuned into any new ease that you have developed, or new kinks that might have been revealed with changes; A clearer self image of you making the basic movements of walking; Ready to take on the world with your vision and voice.

No live video from this full circle classic. Still fresh and beautiful.

She was among the voices that started a movement.
