Squeeze them Cheeks and Find Release (BPS)

Cute Baby Tush.png

Release, Connection, Balance:
We are talking butt cheeks here, and how squeezing with intention can support strong forward momentum and centering.  Skiers, hikers, walkers, dancers, and people who walk and those who want to loosen up a bit - this bun is for you!

In the days before 9/11, when Boston hosted musicians from all over the world, Friday night at Johnny D's was the much needed remedy to Butt Plug Syndrome (BPS):   the state of being uptight and jerky due to stress, crazy bosses, not enough time, Boston traffic, and everything else.

This lesson accomplishes the same goal, though without the live Soukous, Compas, Zydeco, Samba, Rhumba, Salsa, Merengue, Zouk and Reggae soundtracks of yesteryear.

A perpetually tight tush will cause back pain, shortness of breath, slumped posture, a shortened spine and total misconnects from head to toe. There is definitely an attitude component to having a tight bottom.

In the typical Feldenkrais manner, this lesson goes deep into the butt with a squeeze to release it, transform it, and convert the tension into a useful tool.

This lesson is for both people sitting on a firm chair or sitting on the floor. or an optional part of the lesson.

This lesson begins  releasing those cheeks by squeezing them tight, and then relearning ways to use those big, beautiful muscles intentionally to  propel you, turn the hips, support your torso, and translate movement down to the feet and up to the head.  In other words, just about anything you want to do, but now with awareness and respect for those glutes!  We will bring in many concepts we have developed so far:  the pelvic clock, the foot tripod, side bending, rib opening, spine lengthening to start.

  • Seated students might again want a small stool to raise the feet and enable a little more hip mobility.

  • Floor students might want some padding for their knees.

  • Everyone might want a pair of small sticks - pencils, chop sticks, twigs -

Open up and enjoy!

Focus this week:  Squeeze them Cheeks and find Release
How you might feel after this lesson: Deeply relaxed overall;  Centered and Grounded; Deep breath;  conscious connection from cheeks to feet in both directions; clearer alignment from pelvis to spine;  better understanding of the connection from 'buns' to knees and ankles. Could be transformational for skiers, bikers, hikers, salseros and merengue dancers.  Gets you ready to rock and roll the romantic way.
