Be the one hugging and the one being hugged. Be the one supporting and the one being supported. Be the one lifting and the one being lifted. That is what we will do in this first lesson of the "Gestures of Love" series. We will be, for a moment, the one we are waiting for.

Also, we will soften hands, release shoulders, get a deep upper back stretch. and learn the gesture of elegantly doffing a sweater.

Lie on the floor or seated - your choice. The lesson begins with soft palms gliding across bellies and gradually up the sides of the ribs, eventually draping over the shoulders. First one hand then the other explores this movement. Then both hands slide up the body for a deep, shoulder releasing hug. But it keeps going. Crossed arms create a supportive nest for the head and a satisfying, chest opening, back arching stretch.

There's always a surprise move in an Awareness Through Movement® lesson. In this case, we finish with a hug. This is also known as “The Sweater Lesson”
