Gestures of Love - Embracing Self Recording Available
Explore the gestures of love in four seated Awareness Through Movement® lessons that can be done from any place with special meaning – and WiFi. The “Love” begins with a topical reading selected by Rabbi Donna Kirshbaum followed by a guided, body-based meditation. Learn about the life of Dr. Moshe Feldenkrais, his groundbreaking ideas on learning, maturity and human potential.
Our first lesson, “Embracing Self” develops from bringing attention to the sensitivity of the hands, to gradually sliding the hands along the body into a gentle self hug. Along the way come connections between hands, hips, breath and heart.
The lesson opened with a poem offered by Rabbi Donna Kirschbaum of Bethlehem Hebrew Congregation: We, unaccustomed to courage
exiles from delight
live coiled in shells of loneliness
until love leaves its high holy temple
and comes into our sight
to liberate us into life.
Love arrives
and in its train come ecstasies
old memories of pleasure
ancient histories of pain.
Yet if we are bold,
love strikes away the chains of fear
from our souls.
We are weaned from our timidity.
In the flush of love’s light we dare be brave
And suddenly we see
that love costs all we are
and will ever be.
Yet it is only love which sets us free.
