Ruth Mendelson- The Soul of a Musical Magician - A Podcast on Creativity and Composition
I’m always grateful, and a bit shocked, that New York Times Critics' Pick and Emmy nominee, composer/producer/arranger Ruth Mendelson keeps me as a bass student.
She has been writing award-winning scores for documentaries, HBO, National Geographic, Discovery Channel, Disney, Animal Planet, The Learning Channel, A&E, PBS, CBS, and NBC (among others), as well as creating innovative multi-media "surround-scapes" for over 25 years. She is also the first woman in the history of Berklee College of Music (Boston, MA) to teach in the Film Scoring Department.
Her novel, The Water Tree Way, was released on Amazon in December 2020 and is quickly becoming a favorite for children of all ages around the world. What I loved about this spiritual adventure story is how the most helpful beings can also be very annoying, how the most under appreciated gifts can be the valuable, and how children and adults can have loving, positive relationships.
Ruth was recently interviewed on the Expanding Reality podcast. True - most of the interviewees seemed focused on aliens and UFOs. But the interviewer is a musician and engages Ruth in a conversation about creativity, allowing the muse/inspiration to guide the process, and the ‘detours’ that turn out to be major course corrections. If you are curious about one person’s creative process, take a listen.
