Pelvic Floor Awareness for Balance and Strength - Bonus Lesson 1 - Eyes and Ilia
This lesson, Eyes and the Pelvic Floor, is a reset, a relaxation, a vagal nerve stimulation and balance exercise. Deborah Bowes, PT, DPT, GCFP, added this lesson to her pelvic health series to improve balance on all levels.
We are tuned for the eyes and the pelvic floor to interact. It goes back to when we humans scanned the horizon to readily respond to danger. The connection between eyes and the pelvic floor is subtle at first, but with attention, adds synergy and efficiency to our movement vocabulary.People with weak pelvic floors tend to have poor balance. They also tend to look to the ground, which is further destabilizing. Side to side imbalances in the pelvic region further "tip the scales" towards tripping and falling.
This week - we spiral back to a new starting point, focusing on connecting the eyes to the now-awakened pelvic floor. With internal eyes, we "look" into the pelvic floor for imbalances and strengthen where needed.
This lesson is best done on the floor. If you prefer a chair, that's fine too! It's a relaxing journey through the space within, gradually developing the connections between the movements of eyes, head and pelvis that create balance.
You might want a blankie, as this is another extreme low impact session.
