From Core to Floor - 1 - The Cork Lesson
From Core to Floor - 1 - The Cork Lesson
As Above, So Below - Lips, Breath, Floor
Based on “Pelvic Floor Workshop - Lesson 5 - Cork in the Mouth” by Mara Fusero
Approach the pelvic floor from the top down: from lips to lips, so to speak.
The pelvic floor is key to improving movement performance, continence, intimacy, posture or general well-being.
This lesson guides us to the pelvic floor, indirectly, through the mouth, tongue and lips.
Paula Garbourg, author of “The Secret of the Ring Muscles” observed that when the sphincters, or Ring Muscles, all work together, we are in good health. The ring muscle system includes all the ring muscles around the eyes, mouth, urinary canal and anus, as well as non-ring muscles: eyebrows, eyeballs, nostrils, tongue, ears, hands and feet.
This lesson explores the connections between mouth and pelvic floor ring muscles. A cork as a prop helps amplify the sensations. Blow on the cork, kiss the cork, move it in all directions. In time, the pelvic floor’s echos of these machinations come into consciousness. You may find yourself walking around the house, cork in lips, after this lesson.
Mara Fusero, Feldenkrais Trainer since 2010, developed this lesson for her pelvic floor series. Thanks to colleague Paula Alonzo for teaching this lesson to our learning circle.
