Down the Center - Holding Your Balance By Knowing Your Line

Imagine an energy field running down your center, and explore it with hands and feet.

Nobody is perfectly symmetrical, and it doesn’t matter, as long as you know your body.

Natasha was thinking about fishing. For Mary it was kayaking. Jakob was down with the bike imagery.

This was a lesson that was inspired by climbing and it applicable to just about everything. The topic: centering.

Step one: identify your own centerline as you perceive it. Maybe scan down the center with your internal eyes. Imagine a force field running straight through you from your nose to the back of your head, sternum to spine and down the middle down between the legs.

Then explore that center plane with one hand, then the other. One foot or knee, then the other. Maybe you notice differences from side to side, which is natural. The important part is that you know how each side works, and have tricks to stay balanced.

This is another fundamental lesson. We thought about the climbing ropes and belays, the yellow line down the road, and your line in a boat. But, or course, it also applies to golf, driving, gardening. Give it a try.
